The Camper Interview: How New Dogs Get Started

Before any dog boards at Camp Bow Wow Lakewood South, they complete a free Camper Interview. This isn’t a formality. The interview lasts at least three hours, giving our Certified Camp Counselors® time to introduce your dog to the Camp environment gradually, conduct a hands-on assessment, and bring your pup into a one-on-one introduction with established Campers before any group play begins. It’s designed to reduce stress on your dog and support the safety of every Camper in the yard.

To participate, dogs must be at least four months old, spayed or neutered if seven months or older, and current on core vaccinations. Once your dog passes the interview, they’re a Camper, and you can book boarding reservations online, through the Camp Bow Wow app, or by calling us directly.

Why complete the interview before peak season? Holiday weekends and summer boarding spots in the Lakewood and Denver metro area fill well in advance. Finishing the Camper Interview early means your dog can be ready to reserve as soon as you need a spot, without competing for an open interview slot during the busy season.

Extended Boarding & Summer Travel Planning

Colorado’s summer travel season drives peak demand for overnight dog boarding across the Denver metro area, from quick mountain weekends to full-week trips and holiday travel. Camp Bow Wow Lakewood South accommodates multi-night and extended stays with the same all-inclusive pricing that covers every standard overnight. For stays of 10 nights or more, discounts may be available. Contact us directly for availability and details.

Reservations can be requested online or through the Camp Bow Wow app. The earlier you book, the better your options. Dogs who haven’t yet completed their Camper Interview can’t reserve a boarding spot, so if you’re planning a summer trip, scheduling the free interview well ahead of your travel dates is the smartest first step.

Dog Boarding FAQs

Have questions? Camp Bow Wow Lakewood South is here to help!

  • Overnight dog boarding costs vary by location, the type of accommodations, and what’s included. At Camp Bow Wow, nightly boarding rates include all-day open-play daycare, a comfortable sleeping space, and hands-on care from trained staff, with straightforward, all-inclusive pricing whenever possible. Your local Camp can provide exact overnight rates and help you choose the best boarding options for your pup’s needs.

  • At Camp Bow Wow, boarding includes all-day open-play daycare, a cozy Camp sleeping area, feeding, medications, webcam access, and attentive care from Certified Camp Counselors®. Sf Optional add-ons like enrichment, training, or bath and grooming , may be available at your Camp Bow Wow location.
  • Yes, holiday surcharges are common in dog boarding because these are peak times when space and staff are in higher demand. Many Camp Bow Wow locations may apply a small holiday fee or require minimum-night stays during major holidays to ensure we can provide safe, consistent care for every Camper. Your local Camp will share holiday rates and policies in advance so you can plan your pup’s stay with confidence.

  • Many Camp Bow Wow locations provide daily updates so you know how your pup is doing during dog daycare and boarding. Our Certified Camp Counselors® closely monitor each Camper’s behavior, play style, and overall well-being, and can share how your pup ate, played, rested, and made new friends. Some Camps also offer digital “report cards,” photos, or notes, so you get added peace of mind while your four-legged family member enjoys their stay - check with your local Camp for specific update options.
  • Camp Bow Wow requires all boarding dogs to be up to date on their DHPP vaccine to keep them healthy and able to play safely with other dogs. It’s recommended that the Leptospirosis vaccine also be included annually, as it’s more common, can be deadly to dogs, and can spread to humans.

The DHPP vaccine protects against four serious and highly contagious diseases: Distemper, Hepatitis (Adenovirus), Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus. These illnesses can affect a dog’s respiratory, digestive, and nervous systems, and can spread quickly between dogs, making vaccination important.

Puppies start the DHPP series at 6–8 weeks old, with two boosters given at 3-week intervals, followed by a third booster a year later. Adult dogs receive booster shots as recommended by their veterinarian, with the Distemper and Parvovirus portion typically given every 1–3 years.

In addition to the DHPP vaccine, the Rabies and Bordetella vaccines are also required for all boarding dogs at all our locations. For more information on our vaccine requirements for dog boarding, contact your local Camp Bow Wow.
