The Benefits of Regular Grooming
Consistent grooming is about so much more than a shiny coat. It is a vital practice that contributes significantly to your dog’s health and happiness.
- Maintains skin and coat health: Routine brushing helps to prevent matting and tangles, which can cause skin irritation and discomfort. It also helps to spread natural skin oils, promoting a lustrous and healthy coat.
- Improves overall hygiene: Regular grooming keeps your dog clean, reducing the risk of skin infections and parasite infestations. Keeping their nails trimmed prevents painful and potentially damaging overgrowth.
- Enables early problem detection: Grooming provides a perfect opportunity for our Certified Caregivers to closely inspect your dog's body. This can lead to the early discovery of potential health issues such as skin conditions, ticks, fleas, or unusual lumps and bumps that you might not notice at home.
- Controls shedding: If you're a pet parent who is tired of finding dog hair everywhere, regular grooming can be a huge help. Consistent brushing can significantly reduce shedding, keeping your home cleaner and your allergies in check.
- Enhances mood and behavior: A well-groomed dog simply feels better. When a dog is free from matted hair, dirty paws, and overgrown nails, their overall disposition improves, leading to a happier and more confident demeanor.
What to Expect at Your Dog’s Grooming Appointment
Knowing what will happen at your dog's appointment can make drop-off feel much easier. When you arrive at our Bloomfield location, we will review your pup's grooming history, discuss your goals for the visit, and ask about any medical conditions or sensitivities we should be aware of. This quick check-in helps us choose the right products, tools, and pace for your dog so that the experience fits their needs.
Once your dog is settled, we guide them through each step of the grooming process in a calm, reassuring way. Most appointments begin with a thorough brush-out to remove loose hair, followed by a warm bath using shampoos suited to their coat and skin. After a gentle towel dry and time with our safe drying methods, we move on to nail trimming, ear cleaning, and any requested trimming or tidying. Throughout the visit, our team keeps an eye on stress levels and offers breaks or extra reassurance when needed.
When your dog's groom is complete, we will share how the appointment went and note anything we noticed that might be useful to you or your veterinarian, such as dry areas on the skin or changes in coat texture. We can also help you decide how often to schedule future dog grooming appointments based on your dog's coat type and lifestyle. For families juggling work and school commitments across Hartford County, we are happy to talk through timing options so you can plan ahead and keep your pup feeling their best year-round.
Dog Grooming FAQs
Have questions? Camp Bow Wow Bloomfield is here to help!
-
An exit bath is a bath scheduled at the end of your dog’s boarding or daycare stay so they go home clean and fresh after all their Camp adventures. We time it close to pick-up so your pup is dry, brushed, and ready for snuggles when you arrive. Just ask to add an exit bath when you book your Camper’s stay.

Most dogs benefit from a nail trim every 3–6 weeks, but it depends on how fast their nails grow and how much they naturally wear them down. If you can hear your pup’s nails clicking on the floor, it’s usually time for a trim. Our groomers can recommend a schedule that keeps your Camper’s paws healthy and comfortable.
-
Both nail grinding and clipping can be safe and effective when done properly. Clipping quickly shortens the nail, while grinding can smooth and round the edges, which some pups and pet parents prefer. Our team can talk through the options and help you choose what’s best for your dog’s comfort and nail health.

A typical dog bath service includes a gentle shampoo, a thorough rinse, towel and/or blow dry, and a brush-out suited to your pup’s coat. Some Camps may also offer add-ons like nail trims, ear cleaning, or de-shedding treatments. We’ll always let you know exactly what’s included so your pup gets the most out of their bath time.

Many pet parents love adding a bath at the end of a boarding stay or a big day of play so their pup comes home clean, soft, and cuddle-ready. After all that fun in the play yards, a fresh bath can be a nice finishing touch. Let us know at booking if you’d like to schedule a bath so we can plan your Camper’s “spa time” before pick-up.
